Description

Hi all this has been a long time in the making as i have been distracted getting into trying out local markets which has been fun.

I wanted to replicate what I made for the xtouch using the cyd but for the panda touch, also in doing so giving it a bigger battery life portable or “off the dock” (kinda, i.e not directly wired in) so i made the bigger version which can be set at either 30 or 60 degree viewing angle on your desk.

To do this you will need the following:

1 x usb adapter from btt (i managed to wangle just the circuit board for a cheaper amount, thanks Luke Harrison!)

4 x M2.5x5 mm screws to attach the adpater to the print (unless you have the ones that came with your screen free)

8 x M3x4 to attach the case together and attach the ups board to the print

1 x 5V UPS board (https://a.aliexpress.com/_EyKCpMj)

1 x 10x15mm toggle switch (https://a.aliexpress.com/_EzZxyQj)

5 x 8x2mm magnets to secure the screen to the dock (https://a.aliexpress.com/_EICh7rD)

1 x spare USB C cable to sacrifice for the circuit, you should have a draw full

The steps for assemble should follow the flow of my images if i did it correctly

  1. remove support from the magnet and aligning peg holes on the dock front
  2. flip over and secure the usb adapter into the rear with the 4x M2.5 screws
  3. flip back over and glue in the aliging pegs and the magnets (after working out the correct polarity from your dock)
  4. the circuit is very simple just added a switch between either the + or - coming out of the UPS before it connects up to the USB cable (switch needs to be in the case first before you solder it). Also make the cable long enough so you can have the orientation you are after mine was tight for 60 degrees how i have it now.
  5. Once that is done, the USB end should align and fit into the hole in the side of the case and you can then screw down the UPS into the mounting holes using the M3 screws on each corner
  6. You can then thrown in a couple 18650 lithium batteries, i won't link these easy search.
  7. Then just connect the USB C to the adapter on the front of the screen
  8. Then just choose the rotation you want 30 or 60 degrees and screw the front and back together from the rear screw holes.
  9. Then just attach the screen flip the switch and enjoy your work!

One little note per my highlighted photo, don't solder too close to the fixing hole i trimmed this back with some flush cutters else it will not sit flat on the mounting holes when screwed down. I also trimmed my UPS case as worried it would catch the lid but not sure it would after some changes i made.

In have tested this for a few days now and it seems to last around 10.5 hours on a full charge, sure this will differ on your stand by time and how mant times you tap the screen for updates but a fair old time compared to the 30 min on the in built batteries.

If you notice any thing that needs changing or have any ideas shout and hopefully can include.
