Description

This plate relief, originally gilded, represents the goddess of fertility carrying two schematized lotus flowers. Astarte is located between two bird protomes of Central European influence. Other details belong to Egyptian culture, such as the hairstyle, the lotus flowers held in both hands or the necklace of lotus or papyrus flowers and buds. This confluence of cultural contributions from the eastern Mediterranean with arrivals from Central Europe is frequent in artisanal products intended for the elite of Tartessian society. In this case, it is interpreted as a sumptuous horse bit, in the shape of an openwork plate, cast in one piece.
