Description

Useful if you'd like to mount your NICREW aquarium light higher and also make it look a bit nicer. I tested with this model on my 12" tank.

You'll want to tweak my Fusion 360 file based on your specific tank size. If it's even slightly a different size the legs won't sit on the glass. If you're using the exact same light model and your aquarium is exactly 300mm wide, then you should be able to use my STEP file directly without problems. I did tweak some tolerances since I printed it so let me know if it fits ok!

To attach the mount to the light:

  1. Print the parts. I'd recommend 3 wall loops and at least 15% infill. Should be printable without any supports
  2. Remove the original wire mounts
  3. Test that the 3D printed parts fit properly and are aligned with the tank nicely
  4. Once you're satisfied, rough up the surfaces that will be bonded. This is very important, otherwise you will not get a strong bond! Then apply some epoxy to the 3D printed parts and attach them to the light body. JB Plastic Weld should work nicely. I doubt CA glue will be strong enough
  5. Wait until it's cured. Done!

If you want to try to modify the mount for a different light and/or tank, you should be able to by using my Fusion 360 file. The file includes a model of the tank and light and the mount should update if you change their sizes.

Note that one leg of the mount is wider than the other; this is to center the actual LED array on the tank instead of the entire light body (the LED array is offset). You can change this by modifying one of the sketches.

There are also 2 pegs on each leg of the mount that are meant to fix into some screw holes on the body. You may need to tweak or even remove these pegs.

There is also an optional “top hat” you can glue to the top that directs light better. It comes in 2 pieces that should be glued together.

Also sorry for the non-commercial license, it's because I'm using the free version of Fusion 360.
