how do you fit the two parts togheter? in your pictures the cupholder seems to snap into the other piece but for me that does not seem possible

The parts should fit easily together. It's not a snap fit though. I used a small amount of Shoe Goo.

cross layer on the cup insert falls. there is not enough support for it.
