==Overview:==
Assembled and calibrated by Alanis Chu of Mage Squadron, the Obake adds both stealth and even some brawling and manipulator utility to the venerable support mech.
==Capabilities:==
Refit with a 275 light fusion engine from the 8Ds XL model, Obake is less vulnerable to engine housing breaches from side torso damage. The LRM-15s have been downgraded to a more classic 10-shot, albeit with Artemis IV guidance.
Four tons of LRMS are loaded into the C.A.S.E. ammunition bays in the side torsos. Rounding out the loadout are a pair of medium X pulse lasers fitted to the embrace mounts of a pair of arms from a Wolverine. No longer fitted with jump jets, Alanis opted to boost the armor plating to near the maximum for the chassis. An odd choice to focus on two very different combat philosophies. More sensibly for a support unit is the installation of a salvaged Null Signature stealth system to help her with ambushes and support by fire movements.
Obake proved itself to be a solid build, the non-standard parts working together well enough to actually reduce maintenance requirements. The other side of the coin is, when maintenance or damage repair IS required, those same weird part configurations make working or even fitting into some locations much trickier and more complex. The trade off us, she may not be in the repair cradle as often, but when sh'es there she can stay there a while.
==Notable Mechwarriors:==
Alanis Chu, Daughter of Mage Squadron mercenary Sullivan Chu and former D.E.S.T. operative Kelly Genda practically grew up in the Mage Squadron mech bay. Being daughter of one of the senior squadron commanders and long time trainer, Alanis often found herself under the wing of both mechtech and mechwarrior alike.
Her voracious aptitude for learning in the mech bay and training simulator did not translate so easily to the classroom- she and her father often did not see eye to eye, and both were headstrong. The death of her mother galvanized their relationship, though Sullivan retired from regular duty after that. Alanis took over as pilot of her fathers old Shadowhawk, Scrapper.
She was a gifted mechwarrior- both her parents had been pilots. But after so many stories about the venerable medium mech, Alanis wanted something she could call her own. She saved, salvaged, extorted, and otherwise finagled the components to assemble a very special version of a recently acquired Dervish 8D.
Nicknamed "Obake" (Japanese for Ghost), her Dervish was outfitted in a way that perfectly fit both her parents skillsets. Her father had been a fire support specialist, and her mother Kelly had been a master of concealment in the commandos.
