Description

Updated 4/23/24: added notches on portafilter mount to interface w/ the portafilter ears when operating.

For everyone 1 rotation of the handle, the distribution gears will rotate twice! I was inspired by the speed of the Autocomb and the consistency of planetary distribution tools like the Moonraker and Umikot.

I also wanted to add some quality of life and durability improvements, like the elimination of the seperate base. The SOUP legs extend 5mm below the needles to prevent accidental bends.

For basket depths different than 24mm, feel free to modify the OnShape file!

The portafilter mount requires supports on the underside of the notches. If you're using BambuSlicer, set the threshold angle to 10 degrees so that supports only form on the horizontal faces. Everything else can be printed without supports. I printed my SOUP w/ the standard 0.2mm preset on my Bambu P1S and it came out great!

Requires 2x M2 4mm (for mounting the edge needle insert and fixing the top-level sun gear), 7x M2 6mm for all the other gears, and 4x M2 20mm to hold the entire assembly together. Requires 13 0.4mm acupuncture needles trimmed to your basket depth + 9mm. The design includes helper text on the inner lip of the portafilter mount that will indicate the proper needle size.

When printing with PLA, I find that the gears run a lot smoother if you sprinkle a bit of espresso-fine coffee in! Keep in mind that you're dealing w/ more torque than other printed WDT tools, so it'll feel slightly harder to turn. I have had smoother results printing in PETG.
