Description

This is a print of a wall decoration of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). I designed this in Blender and printed it with matte black PLA. It's quite large and you will need to supply the mirrors. I ordered these exact acrylic gold mirrors and designed the hexagons to be indented at just the right size to fit these mirrors.

You will need to print the following to put this together:

  • 1 x hexagon-center-solid
  • 6 x hexagon-inner
  • 6 x hexagon-outside-2side
  • 6 x hexagon-outside-3side
  • 1 x jwst center piece
  • Multiple hexagon connectors

I printed all of the pieces and put it together as such:

For all hexagon pieces (besides the center solid piece), I glued the mirrors into the indentions so they don't fall out. On the back side of this I connected each hexagon by using the connectors and gluing them such that each hexagon side that touches another hexagon has a connector glued and connecting the two hexagons. This creates a somewhat flexible piece but if you glue them with enough connectors, it will be sturdy. I used super glue for this. There is definitely a better way to put this together but this was my elementary way of doing it lol. Lastly, glue the center piece directly in the middle of the center solid hexagon.

Thanks to https://makerworld.com/en/models/173727?from=search for the center piece. I modified this a good bit to better fit my needs.
