Description

Model

Alternative inserts for neutral miniatures of Heroes of Might & Magic III The Board Game Stretch Goals

Two boxes that can store all neutral units. This box does not have a dedicated insert for specific miniatures. Big miniatures should be placed like in the photo. Miniatures on small bases can be placed randomly (if it fits - it fits). The lid is the same for both boxes.

This insert:

  • can speed up game setup;
  • takes less space on the table compared to factory inserts;
  • can be placed vertically on the table taking even less space;
  • has an easily removable lid attachable with 3x1 neodymium magnets which you can find in a hobby or hardware store
  • can be stored in the cardboard box of any expansion with up to 2 other inserts for faction miniatures

Printing recommendations

  • Box geometry is optimized for FDM printing with a 0,4mm nozzle and 0,2 layer height
  • Supports not required
  • For best results calibrate the dimensional accuracy of your printer and filament

Assembly

Superglue 4 3x1 neodymium magnets in dedicated slots on the box and lid. (Dont mess up polarity ;)

NOTE:

No manufacturing process is perfect. Your specific miniature base can be a bit under/oversized from the factory. As a result, it may have a loose or tight fit. Fortunately, it can be fixed easily. You can use a small piece of sandpaper or a hobby file to enlarge the insert or put a layer of sticky tape to reduce the insert size. Alternatively, you can measure every miniature base size with digital calipers and modify the step file of the box in the CAD of your choice before printing.

P.S You can buy me a coffee if you like this model

or if I can get the obj files, I can make the holes deeper, no problem.

The lids are only 2mm thick in total, so in order to accomodate 3x2 magnets you would need to increase the thickness/height of the lid - but it's possible. On the other hand the "shelf" on which the lid rests is also only 5mm wide so fitting 5x2 magnets would also be challenging unless you don't mind them having sides partially exposed

the lids don't have to be bigger. I can put the magnet in and glue it on the sides.

@icy_1549724940 I've got a question about logistics of storing all the miniature insert boxes. There are currently 7 faction each having it's own miniature's box + 2 neutral boxes for a total of 9 boxes. 4 miniature's boxes fit into a board game box - but only 2 exapansions (Fortress and Rampart) have full height of about 76-77mm - the other exapansion boxes (inferno, tower, faction miniatures box or neutral/treasure box) are 10mm smaller and the miniature boxes do not fit flush. Do you just store them with lid not fully closed ?

Good catch! Unfortunately, I don't have Inferno expansion. I printed only 8 boxes for myself and didn't experience this problem. I use only Rampart and Fortress boxes to store miniatures and I never had to deal with this problem. Also, there are 3 more expansions announced, maybe one of them will come in a box of the same size as Rampart/Fortress. I would reduce the height of the Inferno box since Inferno miniatures are the tiniest. It can be done in slicer, I would appreciate it if anyone could do this and attach a verified print profile.

I think I'll just wait for the Stronghold and other expansions. It's not a big deal.

Thanks. I plan to upload multiple new models on Monday. And there will be boxes for towns and stretch goal props. Just need to finish and test the layout for the yellow stuff.

Can the magnets be changed to 3x2 or 5x2?
