Overnight parking zone for brittle filament to avoid it snapping off inside the AMS.
Rather than discarding old filament or drying it every day, I have found that as long as you do a ‘snap test' and discard the first few inches then it often works quite well in the AMS.
But if you leave it in the AMS overnight or a few days it goes brittle again and can snap off inside the AMS or printer.
First picture illustrates what happens when I forgot to use the parking zone - for this 5 year old Balco filament.
Therefore if you pull it out of the first stage feeder and park it in one of these parking zones it avoids the snaps inside the AMS.
The parking zone it also useful if you want to do things like force spool or colour swaps without having to take the spool out, or clip up the filament.
