Description

Built a little lightbox using a lithophane effect to mimic a bathymetric map of Lake Pokegama, Minnesota.

Three plates:

The face plate used a wood PLA (because it's classy) for a perimeter, black PLA+ for the interfacing lip with the base, and Bambu Matte PLA Light Blue for the lake itself. Replacing the black with green would probably look nice as well!

The base plate doesn't need the prime tower, and has a few layers of silk silver painted on to help with light reflection. This is not strictly necessary, but I've started doing this to a) use up some old filament and b) help get light evenly to the face of these boxes when using matte materials.

The stand plate is just a little stand that props under Sherry Arm to hold the box up level. It's not strictly necessary. There's a little text ironing on the face that didn't show up in my print, but it was just a silly little thing I've done on other prints with random success.

Because it was far too small to use edge lighting, I just hacked together some leftover bits of my go-to standard 5v COB LEDs to light this one up and threw in a cheap little USB-C breakout board to get power in. No switches or anything fancy. Used an old phone charger and cable to power it, threw it on a smart outlet so it comes on at night, gave it to my mother as a gift.
