Description

A recreation of the iconic 1960/1970s perpetual flip calendar. Includes rotating day, weekday and month cards.

My grandad used to have this calendar and when I visited as a kid I would enjoy playing with it so decided it would be a good first project to model and print on my new A1. I only have one photo of it to go by, but I've tried to keep the design faithful to the original and used similar fonts.

The original
Printed in Bambu Lab PLA Matte Bambu Green, eSun Fire Engine Red and Bambu Lab PLA Matte Lemon Yellow

PRINTING

There are various orientations to print the base part, all requiring supports of some kind. I found laying it on it's back with normal grid support works well and is easy to remove. This orientation gives the best appearance to the arch and the only support interface/overhangs are not visible.
But of course feel free to try a different orientation.

ASSEMBLY

Loosen the supports by running a thin blade or business card along the support interfaces. I used the stock Bambu scraper for this.

Then cut away the top part that is supporting the female part of the spindle. You than twist this part to release and remove it. Once that's removed you should be able to remove the entire support block in one piece.

Sort the cards as follows:

  1. January - December
  2. Monday - Sunday
  3. blank card (note: the images show a 0 instead of the blank card)
  4. 1-3 (smaller cards)
  5. 1-9 & 0 (larger cards)

Place the cards in this orientation and all the holes in the cards should align themselves.

Then insert the pin/spindle at the back, it should sit flush.

The tolerances should be just right and allow the cards to easily rotate, but depending on your print/material/finish there may be more/less friction. You could remove the blank card to loosen up or print an additional blank card. (the existing cards are 1mm thick)

CHANGE LANGUAGE OR FONT

I've added blank cards as STLs to the raw files so you can customise as needed.
The day of week and month cards are also available on Tinkercad with the font I used.

NOTE: P1S model gives error, so printed A1, but it printed perfectly. Support removal was the usual, but areas where it scars are hidden.

Thanks for the rating and nice print. What was the error you got? I designed the profile for printing on my A1, but assume it should work on the other 256mm bed printers. Unless some of the objects are clashing with the calibration lines on the other printers?

"print settings are not compatible with the selected printer" but it didn't say which ones just using the app

Back in the early 70s I also had one. Yellow with white cards that quickly yellowed... Printed perfect on X1C. Used filament: Bambu Orange, Bambu Beige, Bambu Green, Prusa Royal Blue and Bavaria Melone. The person who will get it likes it colorfull.... My only whish: a blank version of any card, so I could make own labeling, for example a Geman version ;-) Thanks for the great model.

Amazing! I wasn't sure how popular these were and I couldn't find much info about them. Any idea what brand they were? I will add some blank card STLs as raw files - I had hoped to use the text tool in Bambu Studio so it was easy for others to change language etc but I couldn't get a custom font to show up in Bambu Studio (seems it's a bug) so had to do it in Tinkercad.

Replying to @nadnerb33 :
Sorry, I don't know that. I was around 10 at this time, born 1960. Other then today, no one was looking for the brand ;-) Great to hear, you will add the blank ones, thank you.

This is one of the best entries I’ve seen so far! I know it’s not completely original, but this needs to be at least a runner-up for capturing the style of the original and making it printable for us nearly 50 years later!!
