Description

A simple, yet confusing modern vase. I've included a regular and wide variant.

Instructions:

Please print with regular supports enabled, I had mine set to 20 (though it shouldn't matter much). It should only need supports within the floating region of the model. In my tests a couple parts of the supports it attached to the overhang strung off, but it did not affect the end result.

Both of my test prints were done at full scale, though I'd assume they'd do just as well scaled down.

Note: Please slow down your overhangs depending on what your printer is capable of. The majority of the vase was designed with using as little support as possible, but they do get a bit steep toward the top. Mine has no issues but I did print it fairly slow (For a Bambu P1P anyway). Also avoid using outer/inner/infill printing patterns as my tests showed that didn’t work well.

I've included a file for a circular flower guide that helps sell the illusion of the flower(s) standing straight up. The holes may not fit your particular fake flowers, but feel free to bore them out a bit if needed. The guide fits in semi tight if pressed down enough, but was purposefully left loose so as to not become stuck once inserted. Feel free to dab a bit of hot glue on the edge of the insert to keep it in place.

Simply slide your flower(s) through the guide, then into either the long cavity or short cavity (if your stems are short), then insert into the vase. Then just bend your flowers so they stick straight up and you're done!

Note: Using a lot of wide stemmed flowers may take some trimming/stripping of the plastic. The example with the 4 sunflowers in my photos took a bit of trimming to get to fit well.

Wide Floating Vase
failed 2 times at almost the same height just before the 2 parts joined together. lost 450g during the process. my theory was that the wind from the aux fan was too strong for the support and then failed. for the second attempt I've tired the lower the aux fan to 40% but had the same problem. printed in Bambu PLA matte (coffee cream)

Oh man, I have no idea why that would be. I tested both the wide and regular variant numerous times before I was happy with how they printed and didn't have a single failure with either after I'd dialed it in. I'm not really sure why the aux fan would affect the integrity of the support as there's very little support only on the part thats separated, but its robust enough to not be pushed over. I'm curious if yours generated supports elsewhere for some reason?

also, did you notice any grinding of filament by the nozzle during the print? I’m trying to think of why it’d get knocked over, and from my experience all I can think of is wet filament. Though that generally happens more so with larger objects with more infill. either way, I’m sorry that happened. I wish I could figure out why.

thanks a lot for your answer ! Well it's not the moisture that's for sure, I've put around 300g of professional dessicant inside my AMS. but my printer was in a cold environment (12-15°c) so for the second attempt I've increased the heat of the bed to 60°c, nozzle 5°c higher and aux 40% to compensate but failed the same way. maybe the matte PLA from Bambu doesn't have a strong enough layer adhesion ? also I really like your design, I hope I will find a way to make it work !
