Description

Whether you are a DIY enthusiast or a professional, you know how important it is to drill holes that are square to the surface. But sometimes, it can be tricky to achieve that, especially on round or curved surfaces. That’s why you need a DrillSquare.

This model is a simple but effective drill guide that has a V-shaped groove that fits on flat and curved surfaces. You just need to hold it flat to the desired surface and insert your bit into the matching hole. Then, you can drill with confidence, knowing that your hole will be square to the surface.

Best printed in PETG or low friction filament like nylon, to ensure durability and smoothness. PLA might have problems with drill bit friction. I recommend using this to start drilling a square hole, removing the guide after getting a good bit into the material, and then finishing the drilling job after you've got enough of a hole started to ensure you're drilling square.

DrillSquare is a must-have tool for any drilling project. Try it today and see the difference! It is provided as 3MF, and also a Fusion360 file if you wish to customize the hole sizes/choices.

Printing Notes

  • Should print fine at 0.2 layer height. Print the “V” side up to prevent any part warping, and a brim is also recommended in case of issues. While you could print “V-side down”, this is not recommended, as it can lead to warping.
  • Use 4 walls, or more. You want the holes to be strong and the structure to be rigid.
  • The holes have a built-in tolerance of 0.2 mm around the diameter, as plastic tends to shrink. My testing shows this works well for PETG.
    • If you want to tweak this, either scale the model slightly (easy way), or change the offset in the fusion model here:
  • PETG or higher temperature resistant filaments recommended, although PLA should also work as long as you don't expose it to a warm drill bit. Low friction like nylon is also desirable.

Gedruckt mit PETG-CF auf dem X1 Carbon, sehr zufriedenstellendes Ergebnis. Muss sich nurnoch als Hilfsmittel in der Praxis beweisen.
