Description

This is a fully colored Ornithopter from the movie and books DUNE. This model requires support. I used Bambu breakaway support material for everything. I think I oriented everything the best possible way, but there may be others. The Ornithopter will require some gluing. Use the two blocks for the main parts, and use small pieces of filament for the small pinholes to help with alignment.

There are 2 variations for the wings. You need to have really good build plate adhesion for the hex wings to work. I have included solid wings if they prove too challenging for you.

I remixed this design from Nicotor on Thingiverse, who remixed it from AstroNot, who remixed it from Cyrus_Z.

Other Issues: Requires all 4 filaments. wings are delicate, printed first, then supports for wings, all fine, body was problematic. prints 1 layer, then dumps TONS of poop (see SOME below), then another layer, then poops EVEN IF THE NEXT LAYER IS SAME COLOR! absolute waste of filament and time, highly INEFFICIENT design. logo piece also a waste, &you can’t remove it. it spaghettied out at 94%, but everything was printed except very end of the tail w/ 2 hrs left. Waste.

also the pieces do not align.

The amount of poop is due to how detailed the model is and the layer height, it's just the reality of the AMS system. I also included a separate plate with solid wings if you don't like how brittle the wings are.
