Description

This is the TD (Transmission Distance) step test developed by me and the creator of HueForge(listed here with his permission). This test can be used to test the TD of your filament TDs.

Video tutorial - https://www.youtube.com/live/iPjsLEmgbog?feature=share

Parts Needed

Print Settings

  • TD_Step_Test - 100% infill @ 0.2 layer, filament type and color you are testing.
  • TD_Step_Test_Plus_4 - 100% infill @ 0.2 layer, filament type and color you are testing. - TD_Step_Test_Slide_In_Frame - 2+ walls 15% infill, 3-5 top and bottom layers, black/dark filament
  • TD_Step_Test_Box_Top - 2+ walls 15% infill, 3-5 top layers, black/dark filament(choose from the three options.) For multicolor text, choose your color for the text.

Testing Filament

Place the step test into the viewing lid and with the led lights on check for the step where the light starts to dim to the point that any steps beyond are all the same brightness. The last step before the final dimming, is your calculated TD value. If all the steps are bright, print and insert a TD_Step_Test_Plus_4 of the same filament under the step test block and check again. This block adds 4 to the number on the top of the box. If adding one TD_Step_Test_Plus_4 block is still not enough, keep adding additional TD_Step_Test_Plus_4 blocks till the steps begin to dim.

Storage

I have also designed some Gridfinity storage bin that these snap into for convenient storage options.

It should serve! Although now I want to put together a TD-1 unit! The swatches alone are great. Even with low TD filaments, I print the 4mm stacker just as a reference to have for that material. Printed in Bambu PLA Basic Black and Orange (don't make my mistake... 2 layers of this orange don't come thru very orange at all). P.S. I already left a review, so not sure why it keeps prompting me to review again. I guess I'll just delete the old one after posting this...

I added a profile just with the lightboxes since the main profile keeps the filament change per layer and takes much longer than using the sequence change per object. Many filament changes during white diffuser layers are unnecessary.

EN : Very clever modeling. Allows you to define the TD of the filament, and if you read the description carefully, you'll understand how it works. FR : Modélisation très intelligente. Permet de définir la TD du filament et en lisant bien la description, on comprend bien comment cela fonctionne.
