Description

This adapter system wraps the edges of a ERYONE 250g 149x38mm cardboard spool in order to:

  • provide smooth rotation within a Bambu Lab AMS
  • prevent carboard debris from depositing within a Bambu Lab AMS

Features:

  • Reusable
  • ERYONE nameplate for easy identification when reusing

Instructions:

  • Measure your spool first to ensure it matches the specified dimensions
  • Print this model twice for a single spool
  • Affix one spool ring adapter on each side of the ERYONE spool
  • See attached photos

Considerations:

  • Print Material: Please print with a basic PLA or PETG to minimize any shrinkage.
  • Too Tight? Too Loose? Cardboard expands with humidity and contracts when dried. A cardboard spool that has absorbed too much moisture may cause the adapters to fit very tight. Placing the spool in a filament dryer, such as the SUNLU S2, for a bit should resolve this. Note, you should not dry the spool with the adapters attached as they can warp in the heat. Keep in mind that after a long drying session the adapters may fit too loose. This should resolve itself shortly as the cardboard reabsorbs some moisture from the air.
  • AMS Lid Doesn't Close? All of the spool adapters I make are less than the official AMS spool clearance limit of 202mm, as specified on the official AMS product page, and as tested within my own AMS. However, some people have stated their spools are rubbing against the lid with the adapters attached. It's hard to say what's causing this since I cannot reproduce the issue myself, however, I've created an AMS Lid Riser which allows you to keep your AMS lid closed while providing additional clearance for larger filament spools. It's a quick and easy print which you can find on my profile or directly here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/33133

Printed nice. I did need to scale it up 0.40 percent to fit my spools.

Thank you for the feedback! If the adapters feel too tight or seem slightly too small it's likely the cardboard spool has expanded from humidity. This is very common even with new spools straight out of the packaging. My go-to solution in this case is to dry the spool in a filament dryer for a few hours to remove any excess moisture from the cardboard and apply the adapters afterwards. There are more details on this topic and other considerations in the model description. I hope this helps!

Fits like a glove, used in my AMS and spins without problems.

Amazing! Fits perfectly on the mini Eryone spools and also loads of clearance in the AMS. Note: the fit onto the spool is VERY snug but snaps into place perfectly, just be patient and work around the spool, pushing in gently and it’ll be great.

Thank you for sharing your make and rating! Just wanted to note that if the adapters feel too tight as if you need to force them into place it's likely the cardboard spool has expanded from humidity. This is very common even with new spools straight out of the packaging. My go-to solution in this case is to dry the spool in a filament dryer for a few hours to remove any excess moisture from the cardboard and apply the adapters afterwards. I hope this helps!

I've printed a this thing a few times, and I've stopped it a few times. There is something up on the sloped inner and outer edge of the ring. My nozzle drags across it until it gets past those levels, making a horrible grinding noise. Once it hits level 20 or 21 it stops. I've tried different settings to get it to stop, but it won't. Has anyone else had this issue? Would it be better suited to modify the object to a chamfered square edge, rather than the sloped edges?

I would try swapping out the nozzle to see if this issue still occurs. It's possible the nozzle may be slightly bent or misaligned. The geometry of the model is fairly simple and Bambu Studio should pop up warnings if it detects any issues when slicing. I hope this helps!

Replying to @DesignCraft :
It's not the nozzle. the printer is barely 2 weeks old and it's not doing it on any other prints🤷‍♂️. I'll end up printing more of them, so if it does it again, I'll get a short video of it or some photos.
