Pill Axis is a two part printable pill box. As the name suggests, the central axis piece revolves around a drum. Inside the axis there are 7 slots for pills (one for each day of the week). Since the pill holes are built on a spiral and the drum has the slots in a straight line, only when the hole aligns with the respective slot that the pill can be inserted. A large #000 pill and two #1 capsules can be put in each slot.
Here's a short video showing how it functions!! Unfortunetly (or fortunately I guess) I didn't have any pills on hand when I recorded this so I had to use candy :D
The ratchet mechanism that is built-in makes it so that the axis can only rotate in one direction (forward). The mechanism is strong enough that it doesn’t turn back without sufficient force and it can only rotate forward when the user wants to, preventing accidental turns and spillage of pills.
The central axis won’t come of because there is a slot in the top of the drum and respective detent on the axis. When assemblying the object, the user must align these, so when it starts rotating it won’t come off.
There are a total of three (six if you count the ones with multi-color) versions: English, Portuguese and a blank drum, so you can add the days in your language in Bambu Studio :)
The object prints in two parts. Both can be printed totally without supports. Although I did several experiments for testing the best fit and I believe to struck the ideal clearance, I do recomend printing this at a layer heigh of about 0.16. If you want to go smaller, better! I’ve also found out that if both pieces are printed at a lower speed, the clearence works much better.
You don’t need to use glue or give it any finish, just assemble and use it after you let it cool down a bit. Plug and play :)
