Smart leaders, especially evil ones, realize that sometimes problems cannot be solved by brute force and some subtlety is needed. In some cases you need public and messy execution, and in others you need for the problematic person to simply disappear. This is where assassins come into play. In more civilized places assassins can be engaged when needed, but in the wild borderlands it behooves any evil wizard to have one as a permanent henchmen. These masters of swift blades and deadly poison serve as their left hands, shadowy enforcers, spies and scouts, and sometimes even advisors.
