3D model description
Bumper for the XRAY T4 1:10 RC car
Whilst the XRAYs are typically driven in tournaments we also love to use them in parking lots and here we do unfortunately see occasional crashes and a risk to break the body or other sensitive parts of this great car. This bumper puts an end to expensive replacement parts by protecting the rear end.
When using soft material like TPU the bumper acts like a cushion in the rear. It also distributes impact energy from the sensitive body parts over to the entire robust structural parts at the rear end of the car as the inner shape of the bumper matches the shape of the XRAY T4 structure - lying it flat against multiple parts without affecting the dampers / springs / wheels / sway bar etc.
This XRAY bumper also features fat exhaust pipes and a sporty diffusor. If you like you can further highlight the exhaust pipes by using a silver metallic paint pen to cover the end tips.
This package contains two versions of the XRAY bumper. Please chose the best fitting one depending on the width and depth of your car's body:
- The regular version (XL) is 17,3cm wide - this fits well into regular / wide bodies or a wide rear body cutout
- The alternative version of the bumper is only 15,3cm wide and suits narrower bodies and smaller rear body cutouts
Each of the bumper files contains three parts that can all be printed at once. Those parts are the bumper itself and the two arms that are used to attach and align the bumper with the body posts. These arms can simply be inserted into the two holes in the bumper and then turned 90 degrees to secure the connection. By separating the bumper into these three parts the actual printing of the bumper needs far less support material and in the rare case that something breaks you can replace it part by part.
The bumper does not need any additional material to work, everything you need is in this single print package.
Whilst the bumper design is based on a 2015 XRAY T4 model it probably also works with the other model years of the T4 since they are quite similar - however please validate if your car has a significantly different rear end layout compared to the 2015 model to make sure it fits perfectly.
Please also take a look at our other XRAY / RC creations.
3D printing settings
For best protection of the XRAY rear end the recommendation is to use a flex material like TPU with the following settings: Infill: 5%, Walls: 3, Support: Yes
If you are just interested in the looks of the bumper or you don't drive the car too hard you can also print this with PLA. You should go with 15% infill for the bumper for PLA and I recommend 60% for the arms in order to get them inserted and twisted into the bumper more easily.
Print-orientation wise please keep the end part of the bumper facing up so that the print will show all the details and not be harmed by support material. The support material will get attached to the rear side instead. If that inner part turns out a little fuzzy (depending on your printer / material / settings) that does not matter as this will be the invisible end.
