Hello MyMiniFactory community,
This is my submission for the Cyrcle Phone Design Competition. I want thank the teams at dTOOR, MyMiniFactor, and Creality3D for putting this competition together. Developing the Cyrcle Phone Pearl was a lot of fun and I was able to optimize the form factor and dive deep into the details by referencing the design resources. Thank you dTOOR for sharing these 3D files - they were very helpful!
I hope you like the Cyrcle Phone Pearl. Enjoy and happy 3D printing!
Regards,
Wes
About The Design
From the start, it was clear that dTOOR did not want a rectangular phone so I wanted to avoid straight lines on the overall design. For the front profile, I went with an oval-shaped form factor because this was the closest shape to a circle. The oval shape is clean and undisturbed (i.e. no flat surfaces at the base or bump out for the camera) to minimize visual noise and allow the end user to focus on what really matters - the beautiful, true circle LED touch display.
Design Details
Placing the battery at the center allowed aggressive tapering making the Cyrcle Phone Pearl visually thinner. With its sleek form factor, it can slide smoother into your back pocket.
Details like the front camera, front mic and speaker holes
disappear into the black-colored Display Cover simplifying
the design and highlighting the beautiful circular display.
This flat surface prevents the Cyrcle Phone Pearl from wobbling when placed on a table surface and also creates an area to stick accessories like a phone stand (i.e. PopSockets).
It was a priority to keep a clean, pure front face outline for the Cyrcle Phone Pearl and to acheive this, the earlier prototype's flat base which allowed the phone to stand upright was eliminated from the design. Instead, a combination of a flat surface and rubber pad were added to the bottom side which enables the phone to lean against any object and view the screen at a comfortable viewing angle. With this, you and a friend can still enjoy watching your favorite videos and listening to music together with the Cyrcle Phone Pearl’s dual headphone jacks.
3D Printing Recommendations
1. All parts (except Rubber Pad) have a lot of details so choose a thin layer height in your slicer program and use water-soluble support (if available).
2. Use TPU filament (if available) for the Rubber Pad to help the Cyrcle Phone Pearl lean against objects.
Note: I don't have a lot of experience with SLA printers but I'm guessing these detailed parts would print well using these type of printers.
Assembly Steps
1. Attach Display Cover to the Top Case with double-sided adhesive.
2. Snap display module into the Display Cover’s hook features.
3. Insert speakers and camera modules into designated holders.
4. Snap battery into the Bottom Case’s hook features.
5. Attach Bottom Case to the Top Case with screws - Phillips Flat Head Screws M1.6 x 0.35 mm thread, 4mm Long.
6. Attach Rubber Pad to the Bottom Case with double-sided adhesive.
