Description
The 'atef'-crown was usually worn by Osiris, the god of the dead and rebirth, but was also worn by the king during certain rituals. This example was originally part of a twice life-size statue showing Ramesses II in the form of Osiris. A falcon supporting the back of the crown represents Horus, the god of kingship. An inscription on the back gives the names and titles of Ramesses II and refers to his 'heb-sed', or jubilee festival.
