Printing: The blade is broken down into 7 pieces, the grip into 3 pieces and the pommel into 3 pieces. The tallest blade piece is 163.5mm. I recommend printing the blade pieces vertically with a brim and .15mm layer height for faster sanding and better detail. If you have a printer with a moving bed, align the blade pieces in the direction of movement and reduce printing speed to minimize wobble while printing. The cross guard can be printed in either 2 halves or 1 piece depending on the size of your printer. I recommend printing the Amethyst in Clear resin and painting with resin dye if you have a resin printer, or you could also print it normally and use the print to make a plaster mold for clear epoxy resin instead.

Assembly and finishing:

  1. Cut the steel bar to 3' 8" and remove any burrs from cutting.
  2. Test the fit of the blade pieces on the steel bar before gluing to ensure that they slide on easily and clean up the holes if they don't.
  3. Use the Epoxy to secure Blade 7 to the end of the steel bar and glue on the pieces from tip to hilt. Do not glue the guard and handle pieces yet.
  4. If you printed the Cross Guard in 2 halves, glue them together, but be careful to keep the blade slot clear of excess glue.
  5. Use filler putty to fill in all gaps between printed pieces and file or sand flush.
  6. Paint with filler primer and hand sand all pieces with progressively finer sand paper except Grip 1, Grip 3, and Pommel 2. Repeat this step until desired smoothness is achieved.
  7. Once sanded, paint the Blade using Silver Spray paint and the other sanded parts with Gold Spray paint. (Silver paint can take a long time to fully dry, so be extremely careful with letting anything touch the blade until then)
  8. Super glue the leather cord into the grooves on the Grip 1, Grip 3, and Pommel 2 pieces. Leave a bit sticking out on either end and trim flat to hide the ends. You might have to glue down parts of the braid if they come apart at the ends.
  9. Once all of the paint is fully dried do one last dry fit to make sure everything slides onto the steel bar smoothly and fully. You might need to trim a bit of the bar if Blade 7 wasn't fully inserted while gluing.
  10. Once all of the hilt pieces are fitting, Use super glue and epoxy to finish assembly.
