ERGO READ – BOOK READING RE-ENGINEERED - A UNIQUE AND USEFUL MOTHER'S DAY GIFT
Have you ever thought about how you hold a book?
How about when reading on the bus, subway or airplane?
Is it sometimes uncomfortable? Did you ever wonder why?
Do your fingers get sore from having to exert pressure to hold the book?
Does the book dig into you hand between your thumb and index finger?
THE PROBLEM
I usually read holding my book with one hand but find it gets uncomfortable after a while. After some reflection, it became evident why. The laws of physics were working against me.
Lever effect
We hold the book at its base pinching it to prevent it from falling. This is the worst place to hold a book. This is the classic lever effect with force multiplier. Think of a crowbar or a hammer removing a nail. Well, our fingers are in the position of the nail.
Pressure concentration
The base of the book rests between our thumb and index finger. The weight of the book is concentrated there. Imagine pressing on someone with your finder instead of your hand. Same principle here.
Center of gravity
We hold the book off to one side. We have to exert extra effort to counter this. Again rendering the experience uncomfortable.
THE SOLUTION – ERGO READ
Spine support
Ergo Read provides a large support for the spine of the book. This reduces the pinching effort needed to hold the book.
Weight distribution
Ergo Read has a wide base that rest between your thumb and index finger. This offers weight distribution and reduces the pressure and discomfort.
Balance
Ergo Read is held balanced between your thumb and index finger on one side and your ring finger on the other. This optimizes weight distribution but more importantly balances the book to minimize the effort required to prevent it from tipping.
Ergonomic grip
The back part of Ergo Read has been carefully designed to provide a notch that rest on your middle finger. This helps in keeping the book upright and balanced thereby minimizing the effort required to keep it from falling back and tilting.
Ergo Read is a must for any avid reader and a great gift for Mother’s day. It has been designed for fast and easy 3d printing.
Give it a try. Reading may never be the same !
DIFFERENT SIZES
Ergo Read is offered in three sizes: Small, Medium and Large. Small is best for the smaller paperbacks whereas large will work with larger books. The model can also be scaled if you want a custom size.
I welcome any comments and suggestions about Ergo Read and improving it.
My designs
I enjoy creating 3d models that others can use and appreciate. It is a very fun pastime. I find it very rewarding to see my models downloaded and printed. I put lots of thought, time and effort to create each model print out multiple iterations to make sure it works just right.
If you liked my model and wish to encourage me please give it a like or a boost. If you wish you can also help me with my filament costs. Thank you.
