Description

Simple VESA mount articulated arm with a Magsafe mount. I designed this since I love my Magsafe charger but hate it's short cable and I didn't really care for any other mounts I could fine. I like having my phone right by my monitor so that I can watch for texts or view a video from it. Mounting to the monitor solves many problems and takes advantage of unused space. Best of all it works great with standing desks with monitor arms. I can now raise my monitor when I am standing and the phone raises to the same height.

The arm uses strong interlocking Hirth joints so it will stay in place until it breaks. Instead of making the arms flat bars like others (which does have legitimate benefits) I've made mine square with smooth rounded edges. This allows cables to be managed through the arm rather then outside of it. A small portion of the cable will wrap around the outside of each joint but since so much of the cable is secured the housing it won't get snagged or tangled.

The Magsafe mount itself only holds it with friction at the moment. Double sided tape wouldn't be a bad idea to secure it further. I had to make the mount minimally sized since my phone case only had about 3mm clerance around the magsafe. Plus I wanted to be able to rotate it into landscape mode. I am pleased at how well works as is.

Printing:

The Magsafe mount piece is the only part that requires supports.

Installation:

-The VESA mount installs along the bottom two screws of a 100mm VESA mount holes pattern. It is sized for 4mm screws. I found that m4x20mm was the perfect size for my monitor.

-Each arm has one end that is threaded for the screw and the other is smooth to pass it through. Work out the proper direction of the arms before mounting.

-Thread charge cable through the arm pieces before mounting for easier installation.

-Align each segment. Install screws into the smooth hole first and tighten into threaded hole

-Loosen screw a little bit to adjust angles. Make sure to give slack to cable when adjusting.

-That's about it.
