Meet the doghouse! The magnetic gap filler for your bed.

I've had some random z-axis errors and every time there's a big piece of filament stuck in the gap behind the bed.

I wanted something that could cover that gap but it had to be able to help move filament away from the opening. I figured a nice little dog house design would fit the bill or in this case the gap. It's a quick little design that really does look like a house and it incorporates two 5mm magnets to help secure this to the bed frame and it's less than 5 grams of filament for 3 houses. Just print this out in either the 5x2mm or the 5x3mm magnet size holes you wish to use.

The magnets are friction fit so you just insert them into the holes and you're good. Now, at this point remove your build plate and get a camera or visually inspect the rear of the bed to be sure the gap is clear and there are no little bits of purged filament in there. Like this big old blob that decided to try and move in.

 

 

 

Now center the dog house on the middle of the gap and push it side to side to be sure it's centered in the hole. The magnets should now hold it in place against the fixing hardware on the frame.

 

 

 

I've run numerous versions of this so far to make sure it does not contact the top of the opening in the rear plastic cover for the z-axis. Now you're all set those pieces of purged filament that make their way back onto the bed will not be able to get sucked into that opening behind the bed.
