Description

Horizontal Magsafe and AppleWatch Stand

This is a combined MagSafe iPhone and AppleWatch charging Stand that holds the phone horizontally to take advantage of the new StandBy mode in iOS 17.

All cable cutouts fit both USB-A and USB-C cables and all models are compatible with all iPhones that have MagSafe and all AppleWatch models.

Different versions of this design by me can be differentiated by the version number (just in front of the "M") while different suffixes indicate different variants of the model at the end of the file name.

Available design variants:

Four variants of V5 are available, and for each variant small and large bezel sizes are available as separate print profiles:

  1. OriginalDesign: This is my original compact design, only allowing the phone to be held horizontally
  2. VerticalPhone: This version is a bit longer and allows the phone to be held vertically, adding a third camera bump cutout for this position (requested by DonWhiteside on Thingiverse).
  3. 2xMagsafe_noWatch: This is a version that replaces the Apple Watch charging spot with a cutout for a second MagSafe puck, e.g for charging your AirPods (requested by m_reiner on printables).
  4. OnlyPhone: This is a version that removes the Apple Watch charging spot, not replacing it with anything if you don't need it (also requested by m_reiner on printables).

If you expect more shrinkage on your Filament/Printer and would like a larger tolerance around the MagSafe-Puck, check out the 04mmTolerance Versions on my Printables. You can also find the older Versions 03 and 04 there if you want them.

Update History:

Update 17.10.2023

SmallBezel versions of each of the original four variants are now available.

Update 05.10.2023

Version 05 is out! This Update adds a retaining mechanism in the cable channels on the bottom of all models.
You need a bit of force to get the cables in, but it is easily possible and leads to secure retention in the channels, preventing them from sticking out.
The AppleWatch Charger mount is also 3mm taller to allow for AppleWatchUltras with cases to better fit.

I also added a new version of the design: "SmallBezels". This version has smaller bezels around the MagSafe Puck for those wishing for a more minimalistic design. Due to the smaller bezel, the cable for the MagSafe-Puck is no longer fully contained in the model.

Update 28.09.2023

I've replaced all raw files and print profiles with versions that have a 0.2mm smaller tolerance on the MagSafe ring (now only 0.2mm bigger than the puck instead of 0.4mm), as the fit wasn't quite as snug as I wanted (I guess the X1C is just too dimensionally accurate compared to my old printer).

Update 25.09.2023

Version 04 is out! This is a slight redesign of the edges, while also consolidating the naming scheme.

Miscellaneous

I printed this in GlowInTheDark Blue PLA which looks very nice at night.

If you want any other file types for a remix or something else just leave a comment and I'll do my best to provide them.

It's supposed to be a tight fit, but not so tight that it breaks. Maybe your filament has a higher than normal shrinkage. How is the fit on the phone charging puck? Things you could try are: - Scale the entire model to 101% or 102% before slicing. This should help relieve some of the tightness (but will also make the phone puck fit worse) - Heat the material around the watch hole up before pressing the charger in. This should make it more soft and help it not break. Around 55/60°C should be good for PLA. Please reply if these work or not, I'm happy to help you more :)

charging puck is sligtly larger but with double sided tape it will be perfect. i think could be very well be a filament problem or a tolerance problem on my p1s since also the USB port is not passing very well from the hole

ok thanks for the info. If you're happy with slicing your own file you could also try using the files from the folder "Version-05_04mm_tolerances" on my Printables listing here: https://www.printables.com/de/model/589461-horizontal-iphone-magsafe-standby-applewatch-stand/files . These have a larger 0.4mm tolerance on the holes, so this would be similar to scaling the entire model to about 101%.

Lovely design and the best one available! Just two things which could be better: - cable canal tighter or some sort of canal to push the cables in, so they’re clamped down - MagSafe puck was too loose, needed to glue it in

Thanks for your feedback! I noticed the MagSafe puck too, I guess the dimensional accuracy of the Bambu Printers is just too good, the 0.4mm tolerance was perfect on my old printer. I've updated all models with a tighter 0.2mm tolerance around the MagSafe puck, it now fits nice and snugly on my re-print. I'll think of something for the cables, maybe something to snap them into, and I'll update the designs with that in the coming days :)

Any chance you want to develop one for the iPhone 14 Pro Max, or will the existing models work with it already? Asking as you specified iPhone 14 Pro Max in your description.

The 14ProMax and 15ProMax should be dimensionally identical, with the exception of the camera bump depth. Therefore all models should also work with the 14ProMax :)

It was good until it wasn’t. MagSafe fit perfect, not too tight or too loose. Watch charger was too tight and broke it off like others have described. also surface finish on the face wasn’t the best.

Hi, sorry to hear you had issues! Could you please tell me what filament you were using and whether you used my print profile? I haven't seen that type of surface finish error before. I'll slightly increase the diameter of the watch charger hole later so that it fits better, and let you know when that's done. :)

Hi, I've uploaded a new print profile that contains a model that has a 0.5mm larger diameter for the watch charger hole. This should hopefully help solve your issue :) It's called "Small bezels, vertical phone, larger watch tolerance"
