Description

This is a slightly larger version of my Finger Treads model. I don't think it makes as good of a fidget, so I am going to leave it as its own model for now, but it still very satisfying to play with.

If you are having trouble with pin durability or parts fused together. This model is enough larger that it tends to be more forgiving.

There is a normal version with 0.2mm gaps between pins and holes, and there is an extra clearance version with 0.3mm gaps.

Here is a size comparison for reference. XL version top and original bottom.

Printed in PLA. A little rough to get started but did get it spinning. Any suggestions on what lubricant would work best to make it spin easier?

There is a version in the raw files that has larger clearances that might work better if you are having trouble getting one to print smoothly. You should be able to get it spinning nice off the build plate if you calibrate your filament well. I have printed many of these between the two versions and there were some filaments that just didn't work as well as others. If its just a little bit stiff, just running it back and forth will loosen it up. I'm not sure on grease as I've never tried.

Hi Mott This one turned out even worse for me! I was able to remove the track from the main body, but the track won't move at all. I will try printing with a different filament and let you know.

Sorry about that :( Did you try the looser clearance version of this model? Maybe its time to calibrate your printer and/or filament

Replying to @MottN. :
I only saw the one version of the model? also I have no issues printing anything else with tight tolerances…

In the raw model files (not the print profile) there is one that says extra clearance or something like that. It is 0.3mm clearance on all of the pegs

I just printed this with Hatchbox PLA and it won't break free and spin at all. I used the print profile from Makerworld and everything. Should the round gears spin on the backing frame? I'm trying the looser tolerance version now.

yeah they should spin. sorry you are having trouble. The first things to try are to make sure your flow and pressure advance are calibrated for the filament. if you continue to have trouble you can try slowing your volumetric flow down a bit too, but you shouldn’t have to

The tolerances are a bit too tight.

Try the looser clearance version. There is an STL if you download the raw model files.
