Description

A general note: Generally, I try to avoid using glue sticks and glue products on 3D prints.. but sometimes you really do want that extra assurance that comes with using an adhesive. In particular this is a welcome helper for many ABS/ASA, Nylon, and other higher temperature filaments.

In this Printables post, I present my own daily solution to expensive 3D printer glue. Many people go out and buy Maggigo or similar adhesives.. but i've found this is often expensive and unnecessary. You can make your own, and it can be quite painless to apply.

There's 4 easy parts to this:

  • Get a reusable wide glue applicator that seals shut and keeps the glue solution from evaporating. This affordable acrylic paint applicator from Montana Cans is perfect.
  • Get some Elmer's clear glue, and isopropanol.
  • Download my recipe TXT file and mix the glue as instructed (this is very easy).
  • Optional: Print the included stand for the recommended glue applicator to keep it from tipping over.

 

Tested: This works great on flat PEI, the Bambu X1 engineering plate, and even textured PEI (to aid release). I use it with polycarbonate, ABS/ASA, Nylon, TPU and other filaments that would otherwise either warp or stick too hard. (No guarantees on the really hard stuff like polypropylene. Typically those need special glues.)

I like the idea, but why bother loading a file for the instructions when you can put it in the body of the model tab? It is just another thing to download and open.

It's a way for the author to earn credit for their work. I don't blame them, I think it's a fair tradeoff, super easy to read the txt file then delete it :)
