Description

Wife went Christmas gift shopping and send me a picture of some 3D printed vase with a staggering price tag…

So I opened Fusion 360 and designed a similar Spiral Vase.

Size: 145 x 200 mm (100% scale)
Print time: 3 hours
Weight: 100 grams

Print Instructions
0.28mm Extra Draft in BambuLab
Vase Mode enabled (spiralize outer contours in Cura)
0 top layers
5 bottom layers

Make it More Practical
Once printed the vase is good for dry flowers and its not water tight. My friend found a solution to this actual 145x200mm size of the vase. You could insert a perticular glass cup into the vase and it makes perfect fit. You could buy it from IKEA and its called GODIS. It costs $8 AUD with 6 packs. This means you will have 5 spare glass cups or you could just print more vases for your friends…

Bigger Size
Same settings, but scale the z to 250mm (124.25%). The print time would be increase to 5.1 hours.
You could also insert a IKEA bear glass called OANVÄND and it only cost $3 AUD. It may be not the best fit but you could always put some double side tape at the bottom of the glass.

Happy Printing!

Interesting design. I didn’t expect them to be “squishy”. All my friends love them as it is quite different than any other vase model they have seen. I printed some different flowers that look really nice in the vase.

Strength Issue:If your not going to ship these to family then you will likely be just fine. Product printed great but didn't withstand the shipping no matter how much bubble wrap we put inside and out of the vase. But we still love them. But very thin. So keep that in mind when printing and moving anywhere. You can pickup a small glass vase from the dollar store that fits inside as well to use it as an actual vase for live plants.

Thank you for print this model. Its a joy to see you guys like it. Also what you mention is true. the wall is thin. But you could always print multiple way layers to make it strong. However it will increase the printing time. My wife come up the same idea as you mentioned. We put a cheap glass cup into this vase to make it more stable and useable with water filling. This IKEA cup will fit in perfectly. https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/godis-glass-clear-glass-20137846/
