Description

This adapter system wraps the edges of a REPRAPPER 1kg 200x62mm cardboard spool in order to:

  • provide smooth rotation within a Bambu Lab AMS
  • prevent carboard debris from depositing within a Bambu Lab AMS

Features:

  • Reusable
  • REPRAPPER nameplate for easy identification when reusing

Instructions:

  • Measure your spool first to ensure it matches the specified dimensions
  • Print this model twice for a single spool
  • Affix one spool ring adapter on each side of the REPRAPPER spool
  • See attached photos

Considerations:

  • REPRAPPER spools measure 200mm in diameter which leaves only 2mm until the AMS lid clearance limit of 202mm is reached. While the adapter diameter is still less than 202mm some people have stated their spools are rubbing against the lid with adapters attached. If you're experiencing this I would suggest either not pushing the lid all the way down into the gasket which should provide 1-2mm of additional clearance or please see my AMS Lid Riser model which allows you to keep your AMS lid closed while providing additional clearance for larger filament spools.
  • Print Material: Please print with a basic PLA or PETG to minimize any shrinkage.
  • Too Tight? Too Loose? Cardboard expands with humidity and contracts when dried. A cardboard spool that has absorbed too much moisture may cause the adapters to fit very tight. Placing the spool in a filament dryer, such as the SUNLU S2, for a bit should resolve this. Note, you should not dry the spool with the adapters attached as they can warp in the heat. Keep in mind that after a long drying session the adapters may fit too loose. This should resolve itself shortly as the cardboard reabsorbs some moisture from the air.

Hey Just a heads up! This fits the alternative version of the Inland cardboard spool nearly perfectly! The current Inland file is slightly too small, I had measured the new Inland spools at 200.5 -201 MM - this file fits pretty well maybe a little snug but nothing I am personally worried about - the lip is basically perfect as long as you make sure to run your finger around the sides and make sure it seats over the edge of the cardboard. Figured if you are working on an updated one for Inland this may make it as simple as changing some text, Cheers! Had searched your other models looking for one with slightly larger dimensions and this works perfect

@Retali8 Thank you for letting me know! I've had a few comments regarding the Inland PLA+ spools being slightly larger but I don't have a matching spool to test. Checking the measurements on both adapters and factoring in your feedback, scaling up the original Inland models to 100.6% may be a good fit. If you have a chance and are willing to test it out please let me know!

Thank you for the feedback, this is very helpful! I believe Reprapper may have some different spool types. May I ask if your spool is the same red cardboard type as pictured?

I've only tested this with one of my RepRapper spools but mine is an unfortunate case where the spool rubs against the AMS lid if the lid is latched. If the lid is not latched it sits a tiny bit higher and doesn't cause a problem.

Thank you for the feedback. This topic is addressed in the model description. While the AMS is spec'd for spools up to 202mm in diameter, and the diameter of the adapters is slightly less than that, some others have also reported this issue. I always leave my AMS lids unlatched and each has a hygrometer and I haven't had any issues keeping them at 10% humidity with silica boxes inside. I hope this helps!
