Not much time remained before the ever-dangerous dance of combat began to unfold. With the armies already in their starting positions, the last messengers were seen returning to headquarters after delivering their dispatches to the furthest units on the battlefield. It was the precise moment to receive the blessing of the priestess, in that brief interval of calm before the anticipated storm.
She raised the sacred symbol of the flaming sun to be revered as required by her most faithful followers. The subsequent prayer was proclaimed aloud by all voices of the unit, while the grand master knelt to receive upon his neck that magical symbol that would protect him in the coming combat.
Upon rising again, he surveyed the horizon and the myriad of enemy units and dared to whisper an improvised personal prayer: “Oh my god, in the coming hours I may be too busy to remember you; please, do not forget me.”
