Description

Hey,

Today i bring you the first of my 3D models.
This is a Rheinmetall APFSDS-T 30mmx173, built on the 30mmx173mm Oerlikon spec, similar to the MK44.

The exterion design follows the casing exact dimensions, the rest is made using as much public info as available, with a few changes that i plan to fix when i'll get around to it.

Document used for the modelisation of this are available from Rheinmetall website, oerlikon blueprints and spec sheets available online, General Dynamic website, and Elbeit website.

This print has 4 parts;
- Casing
- Tip
- Sabot
- Dart

The tallest part is 175mm, this should allow it to fit on nearly every printer, including the likes of the A1 mini or Prusa Mini.

The “Dart” has a tube at the tip of it, this was made to allow you to cut it to shape for a pointy nose. As most 3D printers are unable to create such a geometry on your typical 0.4mm nozzle.

The “Tip” and “Sabot” have 5 slots each for some 2x6mm mangets, if you wish to use them. Either for weight or to secure the 2 parts together.

This model was done for PLA mainly, as mainly a cosmetic model. But there is nothing preventing it to work with other materials.
I personally would recommend using a slightly more matte finish on the “sabot” part, as it does look slightly different IRL.

The tolerances for the parts fitting together are 0.1mm-0.15mm, considering the diametre of the parts, this shouldn't cause any issue. If tolerances are too tight, i recommend sanding down the inner diametre of the parts like the Sabot, not the outer diametre, to keep the part looking clean.
