Locomotive s2

The S2 locomotive was a class of diesel-electric locomotives that operated in the United States. These locomotives were built by General Electric (GE) Electric Company between 1940 and 1949. The "S2" classification indicates that these locomotives were designed for shunting and switching service in rail yards and other industrial facilities.

S2 locomotives were widely used by several railroads in the United States, including the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR), the New York Central Railroad (NYC), and the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O), among others. They were medium-sized locomotives and had a B-B axle arrangement, meaning they had two drive axles on each bogie, or set of wheels.

These diesel-electric locomotives were popular because of their versatility and ability to maneuver heavy loads in tight spaces. Although they were eclipsed by larger, more powerful locomotives in hauling long-distance freight trains, S2 locomotives played an important role in railroad yard shunting and marshaling operations.
