The Junkers Ju 87 Stuka is a German dive bomber that was introduced in 1936. The Stuka is two-seater, single engine, dive bomber. The Stuka took part in the Spanish Civil War, Invasion of Poland, Dunkirk Evacuation, France, and the Battle of Britian. It remained a powerful aircraft until the Luftwaffe lost air superiority, leaving the Stuka defenseless without fighter escort. The Ju 87's fame came from its use of ram-air sirens known as “Jericho trumpets”. Hollywood popularized this sound, mistaking it for the sound of an aircraft stalling.
