The Deer of Nine Colors, a captivating Chinese legend, originates from the Mogao Caves, depicted on the walls of Cave 257. This enchanting tale, later brought to life in a 1981 film by Shanghai Animation Film Studio, beautifully portrays the values of generosity and gratitude. The film particularly emphasizes the deer's gentle nature and its desire to bring happiness to all it encounters, solidifying its place as a cherished legend in China.

My inspiration for designing this model for Bambu stems from their exceptional kindness and unwavering support, especially during my struggle with Covid in late 2023. Despite not being able to offer much in return during that challenging period, Bambu remained a constant source of encouragement.
As a token of my gratitude, I offered to design something special for them. When presented with different options, the overwhelming choice of the Nine-Colored Deer served as a powerful reminder of this legend's significance.
I hope this design embodies the essence of the Nine-Colored Deer and reflects the spirit of kindness and gratitude that Bambu has so generously shown me. The deer is available on her own or part of my favourite scene from the cartoon where she brings animals frozen by the cold back to life.
