Description

Inspired by Airless Gen1 by Wilson (only this one is not 2500$, and you can print it yourself). For it to be usable, it'd probably have to be printed in Nylon or PC. The printed model was in PLA, so it actually does bounce, but its lifespan is rather small. This is the first iteration of the model, which I'll keep working on, design and strength wise :)

Any opinion is well acepted!

 

Model on photo was scalled down to 65% of the size, but the .3mf file has the officially NBA regulated 24cm diameter ball!

 

Also added an extra small fuzzy skin parameter to represent some kind of texture to the ball. Actual great feeling!

Well, that's unfortunate, but looking at that fracture, that's definetely related to adhesion in that layer, rather than the pure strength of the material. My first printed ball was also in PLA, and I bounced like 7-8 times before it broke, but in my case it was just a small fracture. that's a whole surface fracture, which suggests poor layer adhesion :/ Either way, I suggest printing it in TPU, or something like Nylon or Peek for decent real life results.

I just found out that tpu is the way to go. I will use it the next time bc I really want one of these. thx 🤟🏾

have you considered printing this in a flexible filament like TPU? or would it deform too much to bounce in that?

Printing it in regular 95A TPU would have a really hard time bouncing. It needs something with a high rigidity and high tenacity to be able to absorve the energy and bounce! The best filament would be something with the rigidity of PLA and the "indestructibleness" of TPU. One thing to test out would be a multi material solution, with PLA as a core and a small TPU shell
