Description

Modular Filament Spool Shelf/Rack

Design Information:

Filament shelf was designed due to lack of storage space and all of the spools lying around. The goal of the design was to be modular so that when more spools come in you can just add another level. I have used wooden rods of 500 mm lenght. Thanks to them on one level you can fit 7 spools of filament. You can use longer rods they should do the job, but the maximum lenght I would limit to 1000 mm. Everything depends on your needs.
There are 4 parts. “Base” on a first plate in the 3mf. file. You will need 2 of these. This is a base to which you will attach legs and further modular middle part. “Middle part” you will need 2 of these on each level. They are on second plate. Print as many as you need. If you want 4 levels as in photos you will need 4 of there printed. “Base legs” They are on 3th plate. You will need 4 of these (So only one plate). They are placed that you dont need to place glue on your plate after first print. Last “Final part” is meant to close your design. It does not have holes on the top to fit another middle part. It just looks better :D

Total dimensions with 4 levels and 500 mm rods: 240 x 520 x 920 [mm] (Width x Length x Height)

What you need?

The only thing you need to buy is wooden rods with diameter of 20 mm. Diameter can not change. If it goes for length I have used 500 mm rods. Which fit in total 7 spools on one level. Please do not go over 1000 mm length. If you do it it is on your risk. Lower you can find links to the Amazon, Aliexpress and Allegro just to help you :D Allegro is a polish page from where I got my rods. Aliexpress link was shorten.

Printing:

Print profile is a bit modified from a standard one. You will need supports as they are enabled. Those are simple ones. They are really easy to remove just remember before you fit everything together to make sure supports are removed correctly. Tolerances where tested and it is a tight fit. As it goes for parts. It should be printed out of PLA. It ensures good quality with a good strenght. If u have plates with patterns that is amazing because you can have a pattern on the sides of the shelves. I would love to see that.
You need 4 base legs, 2 Base, 2 Final part and as many middle parts as you want. For 4 levels as mine you would need 4 middle parts. With 4 levels it is still a stable shelf/rack. I dare you to test a limit :D

Assembly:

Parts are fitted together with a series of bolts. Designed with tolerances to make a tight fit. You can see them below. You just press one part into the second. Just use a bit of force and make sure each of them are alligned.

Rods are fitted into holes with a force. I would advise to lay part on a flat surface and just push the rod with force from the top and then push the second part onto that. The force of your hands will be surely enought. When you have one level assembled than you can add it to the base.

Remember! After you assembled first level add the base legs!

Any feedback is welcomed! I would love to see the photos of your shelves. I am opened to any changes, if u have sugestions.
Happy printing!!!
