Description

This is another minimalistic wallet featuring a simple design language using a clip to hold the cards and money tight. To store coins you may combine this with https://www.printables.com/model/73752.

Since the model relies on tension built up you should use material that is flexible to a certain degree. I recommend PETG. The model is designed to print completely without support structures. The clip works best if no infill structure is needed. In doubt, you should increase the perimeters enough to cover the full thickness. With the default wall thickness of 1.6mm, the default slicer settings should be good enough though.

The model is a parametric OpenSCAD file that allows you to create the exact size and style you need. The model has the following parameters:

  • h (height of the clip) can be adjusted to other card sizes. The default is slightly shorter than a standard credit card.
  • th (thickness of the walls. Make it thicker to make it stronger but also more brittle. Play with this parameter together with the tension below to find the right strength.
  • nc (number of cards) to fit into the wallet. I recommend going slightly over the desired actual content to leave enough wiggle room to insert and remove cards easily.
  • tens (tension of the clip) specifies the amount of tension the clip should build up. Increase the value to make the clip stronger or decrease it to make it weaker. I recommend working with this value instead of playing with the wall thickness above.
  • w (wing size) specifies the size of the wings.
  • tol (tolerance) is the extra space added to the card size to allow for printing tolerances and easier card insertion and removal.
  • card dimensions specify the dimensions of the cards to be stored. If you use this to store credit cards and similar cards there is no need to change this but maybe you want to store other things instead.

If you customize the model please check that the combination of too high tension or wing size values to not lead to the model curling up so much that walls touch or even pass through each other since this will make the model unprintable.

The uploaded STL files can store up to 12 or 25 cards respectively. Both versions are available with 1.2mm and with 1.6mm wall size. From practical use I recommend the 1.2mm version since the 1.6mm version is a bit too strong with PETG for my personal taste.
