It is a medium-sized, quadrupedal mammal known for its distinctive appearance. Hyenas are known for their peculiar and somewhat unsettling laughter, which can echo eerily in the wild as they communicate with one another. They are known for scavenging the remains of other creatures and often inhabit areas where food is readily available. They are opportunistic predators and scavengers, often hunting in packs to take down larger prey or scavenging carcasses left behind by other predators. Hyenas have a powerful bite attack that can inflict significant damage on their prey or adversaries. Their acute sense of smell allows them to track prey or detect the presence of intruders.
