Handball (Diaballik)

Diaballik is an abstract combinatorial board game, created by Philippe Lefrançois, consisting of a board of 7 by 7, i.e. 49 squares. Two players compete in a similar way to two teams in a team sport such as handball. Each team has 7 pawns, one of which has the team ball. Each team has its own ball. The object of the game is to get a pawn into the opponent's court with the ball.

The two opponents take turns. On his turn, the player has the possibility to perform up to 3 actions in any order: 2 orthogonal moves of a space and a pass. He does not have to perform all these actions.

To move a player it is necessary that he does not have the ball and it is necessary that the adjacent square located horizontally or vertically is free (no pawn of his team or of the opposing team). As the player has 2 moves at his disposal, if he wants to move a pawn to a neighboring square diagonally, he must use two orthogonal moves, one vertical and one horizontal, the passing square must be free. It is also possible to move two different pawns one square.

The pawn holding the ball can make a pass by throwing it as far as it wants to another pawn on the same side located on the same line, column or diagonal as itself, provided that no opposing pawn is placed between the two allied pawns. As in handball, the pawn holding the ball cannot move during the same turn (but the pawn receiving the ball can move before receiving it).

Anti-gambling rule

In order for each team to pass into the opponent's camp, an anti-game rule forbids players, under certain conditions, to form an impassable line for the opponent. If a player creates an impassable line and 3 enemy pawns are adjacent to this line, the player who created the line loses immediately.
