Upcycle your old 250ml cans and turn your walls or windows into lush gardens with this modular vertical wall planter system!
Slowly grow your vertical wall garden by printing hangers as you accumulate 250ml cans.
Benefits
This system is extremely eco-friendly because:
- It is designed to use biodegradable PLA filament;
- All parts print in one piece, and no wasteful support material is needed;
- One planter only uses 31 grams of PLA filament (with recommended print settings);
- The modular design allows you to arrange your vertical garden in whatever column / row system you need to suit your space;
- Allows you to re-purpose old cans that you would otherwise throw away;
- You can grow your own organic herbs and greens, and save on plastic waste and fertilizers that come with greens purchased from the grocery store.
- You can also use this system to plant air filtering house plants, or flowers and decorative plants!
Print Settings
One hanger can support a column of up to 8 planters with the following settings. If you need more than 8 planters in one column, increase the vertical wall thickness and infill percentage.
- Designed for use with PLA filament, but other filaments should work fine;
- Use a slightly elevated extruder temperature (230 degrees for PLA works great) to increase layer adhesion;
- Print with thick exterior walls (4 layers works great) to increase strength;
- Use a higher layer height to increase strength (350 microns works great);
- Use 30% in-fill.
- No support material or rafts are required! Just slice and print as-is!
Instructions
- Remove the top of a 250ml can with a can opener;
- Clean up the edges with a good pair of scissors;
- Use the lip protector (optional) to protect from sharp edges or burrs, if any, that were created when the top of the can was removed. Use superglue to secure the lip protector to the top of the can;
- Print one hanger for each column of planters, and as many planters as you need using the recommended print settings;
- Use nails or screws to install each hanger into the wall, or a suction cup to secure the hanger to a window (use the strongest suction cups you can find, and don’t hang more than 3-4 planters off of one suction cup);
