3D model description

Donating to access the files through my Ko-Fi supports me and enables me to dedicate more time and energy to creating for the community. These files are also available for free on Thingiverse, Printables and Cults3D with the option to donate if you like them

OpenSP is a take on the Gameboy Advance SP which forgoes the hinge to make a flat console more akin to the Gameboys that came before it.
With this kit you can use an original SP shell, and either original SP buttons, or Gameboy Color buttons if you prefer.

Included in the files are a few versions:

OpenSP Long - this is a longer version of the OpenSP which can integrate the original top shell, and can be used with almost any Laminated or non-laminated SP IPS display (excluding Makhos laminated DMG style display) or an OEM AGS 001 or 101 display. This uses Gameboy Color buttons.

OpenSP Resin - this is a version specifically designed for resin printers, it's in a single piece and you can opt for with or without a headphone port.

OpenSP FDM - Aimed at FDM printers, or those who want to print in different colours, this separates the button area to allow for cleaner printing of the SP button variant.

OpenSP GBC - these versions use GBC buttons and are printable with either Resin or FDM as a single piece.

LEGO - There are all standard versions with LEGO compatible dots on the rear to add your own designs or accessories.

Pikachu - There are all standard versions with Pikachu ears integrated, and included are the gender specific variants of Pikachu's tail so you can customise how you like by attaching these to the battery cover

As well as the STL files, I have also included 3mf files with minimum compression which can be edited in TinkerCAD, Blender, Fusion360 or any other program of your choice so you can make these designs completely your own.

Things you'll need:
- A Gameboy Advance SP
- A 3D printer, a good friend with a printer, or a service like PCBway or Sculpteo
- IPS Display (I recommend the Funnyplaying IPS Display, available here: www.retromodding.com/products/game-boy-advance-sp-ips-lcd )
- 3M double sided tape to attach the screen - this comes free with most IPS display purchases in my experience

If you make one, make sure to let me know on Instagram (@josephtomkins), Twitter (@tomkins_joseph) or Reddit! (@gingerbreadnerd)

This project wouldn't have been possible without Jordan (@retrogaming_dad) and Jonas (@retrogame.evo) who continuously helped with testing, improvement suggestions and the photos you see on this page. If you don't already follow them, they're both amazing people in the Gameboy community and you should!

Files are shared under public domain - meaning that you are free to edit, redistribute and share these files, it would be really nice if you shared any changes that you made publicly too (but there's no obligation!)
