3D model description

This is a case for the "Ublox NEO-M8N GPS + HMC5983 compass (XL)" from the manufacturer called Drotek.

Outer dimensions (l x w x h) : 55.8 mm x 55.8mm x 14.5mm

Inner dimensions: 51 mm x 51 mm

Hole Distance: 45 mm

If the cover is closed and screwed, the GPS module is firmly hold in place.

The holes on one side are for the GPS and compass cables, on the other side for the USB port. It can be connected through the case.

Maybe it fits other GPS modules as well, but no guarantee for such experiments....

If you want you can even just use the bottom part, as shown in the first picture of my print.

It ist meant to stick on top of a folding GPS mount.

However you can use common hexagonal M3 spacers too. Just stick them inside the holes on the bottom, which are meant for the nuts.

As you can see in my pictures I used steel screws. This is NOT good for the compass offsets, so please use nylon screws and nuts!

As you see in the last picture I am currently using the "Slim" version, hold together by zipties! It's just as easy as this ;-)

Updates:

  • Added Versions with wider holes on top and bottom (additional informations at "Instructions")
  • Added "Slim" Version, thickness decreased to minimum, just about 14.5mm left! Looks much more elegant than the big box...

THANK YOU!

Happy printing and have fun!

3D printing settings

There are two different files each.

As some of you might know, 3D printers tend to deposit more material at vertical holes. So for the ones of you familiar with this problem I made special files with the ending "..._wider_holes".

Those files feature:

- diameter for screw head now 7mm

- space between parallel flanks of the hexagonal holes on the bottom now 6.8mm

Please choose the one which will fit your printer, thank you!

If you use screws to hold the case in place, please use Nylon screws instead of usual metal screws!

This should help keeping troubles away from the compass-based flight modes with multicopters.
